# JOIN US FOR A SPECIAL EVENT**Open Source Vector Mapping: An Evening With Data Viz Pioneers**

Data is at the core of Uber's business and is fundamental for making informed decisions. The mission of the [Visualization team](https://eng.uber.com/data-viz-intel/) at Uber is to deliver intelligence through the crafting of visual exploratory data analysis tools. To meet these needs, the team developed an [open source visualization stack](https://eng.uber.com/deck-gl-framework/).

In this talk Nicolas Garcia Belmonte, Head of Data Visualization at Uber, will give a brief overview of the Visualization team, their history, mission, and the most challenging problems they tackle. Followed by a deep dive into their core open source components and libraries that power most data products at Uber. He'll present their abstract and scientific data visualization stack, focusing on [deck.gl](http://deck.gl/), a WebGL framework for high-performance visualizations.

**Talks:**

- **“[DECK.GL](http://deck.gl/):** **Uber’s Open Source Data Visualization Tool”** With [Nicolas Garcia Belmonte](https://twitter.com/philogb), Head of Data Visualization at Uber.
The [Visualization team](https://eng.uber.com/data-viz-intel/) powers many data products across experimentation, machine learning, BI, maps, operations, policy, comms, and the advanced technologies group (ATG).
- **"Tangram: Open Source OpenGL Maps by Mapzen"** With *Peter Richardson, graphic developer at Mapzen.
He vexes vertices, flusters fragments, and pesters pixels on Mapzen's graphics team.*
