Every year, fishing in the Saimaa Lake in Finland
is heavily restricted by local government authorities to help prevent pup seals from getting stuck in fishing nets.

WWF Finland and Frantic wanted to visualize these restricted areas, and using CARTO’s powerful API enabled them to do so. To date, over 600 restricted areas on the Saimaa lake have been mapped, helping their initiative to protected the 360 Saimaa Ringed seals that currently inhabit the lake.
